Give me some time here Mint. I actually have a cousin who is Jehovah witness. I know from living in Illinios that the mormon dude John Smith had a vision of gold egyptian tablets written in heiroglyphics. According to them Gabriel gave him the translation and that was the book of mormon. Someone else could give more detail on this. Now the Jehovahs part I will get with cuz and find out anything you want to know. The blood thing is to literal. The bible says we must abstain from blood so they do. Even if it means their death.

Hi Mint

I worked with a Mormon Company for over 10 years, and got to know the Witnesses in a small town in Colorado, and spent about a year studying with one of the leaders of the Witness's John Raye.

The Mormons believe that John Smith received some gold tablets somewhere on the East Coast of the US. They have the Book of Mormon that have writings of other messengers, in addition to using the KJV of the New Testament.

Primary difference in the Mormons from Mainstream Christianity, is this other book they claim as holy. They are very good about helping each other, and are a very good people, one of the best communities in the Christian Religion.

They still hold to the Crucifixtion and Jesus being God I believe.

The Witnesses on the other hand, do NOT believe that Jesus is God, which is in their favor. They too have their own translation of the bible. However they still hold to the Crucifixtion of Jesus and the Blood atonement.

They don't believe in any Blood transfutions, they hold our Blood to be sacred... They also refuse to pledge aligence to the American Flag, their churches have no windows, they prostlytise door to door, setting up studies with those that let them in. They don't believe in celebrating Christmas, or birthdays.
I would have become one, except God had other plans for me...

They were the ones that picked me up off the street when I was sleeping in the park... At least this guy John was.. So I have quite a lot of nice things to say about them...

May God's Peace be in your heart.

JW’s believe that Jesus Christ was a perfect man, and that He is a person distinct from God the Father. However, they also teach that before His earthly life, Jesus was a spirit creature, Michael the archangel, who was created by God and became the Messiah at His baptism. According to Jehovah’s Witnesses, Jesus is a mighty one, although not almighty as Jehovah God is. According to John 1:1 in their Bible, The New World Translation, Christ is “a god,” but not “the God.” They teach that Jesus “was and is and always will be beneath Jehovah” and that “Christ and God are not coequal”.

Thank you for your response.

Can you ask if they eat equivalent to kosher or halal if they consider blood in such a way?

Reson for edit: mispelled some words...

Oh Jehovah's witnesses aren't considered Christian by many, They're more polytheistic in their views(even for a Christian group), They separate the trinitarian ideal of 3 in one and believe Satan to be a god of this world.

Correct. They believe Jesus son of god but not the trinity like most christians. I spent two hours listening to this today and I'm still lost.

I am mormon, so i can settle that side of things.

We believe that in 1820, Joseph Smith was a young boy confused and in the middle of a revival of religious interest. He wanted to know what church to join, so he prayed to God to find out. God and Jesus Christ appeared before him and told him that all churches were perverted from the true word of God, and that he was to join none of them. about 10 years later, he was visited by an angel, Moroni, who gave him a set of golden tablets that had the records of an ancient christian civilization on them. He then translated the plates into what we have as the Book of Mormon and founded a church which still claims to be the restored church of Jesus Christ, the same that was set up in Christ's earthly ministry.

any questions?

I have one. Why should I believe any of this BS? That question applies to all religions. After all, I don't believe any of them call on us to abandon all reason. Believing in something isn't a choice. It's an outcome. Intelligent people need proof. And THAT is why a faith-based religion can't be correct. Even if its writings have some of their historical facts right, it's all circumstantial and irrelevant in the face of the mystical elements which one can't believe without proof, without abandoning reason.

To put simply. They are both Christian. They both believe that Jesus Christ is the savior and redeemer of man-kind.

Mormons believe that Joseph Smith found the Golden Plates with help from Moroni, not Gabrel. smile.gif

Mormons are Polytheistic also, they believe that Heavenly Father, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost are 3 seperate entities that are Gods.

Your question is very General, but I can answer anything on Mormonism you might want to know.

Also, Mormons use:

KJV Bible
Book of Mormon
Pearl of Great Price (Contains the Book of Abraham, and Moses)
Doctrine & Covenants (Direct Revelation from Heavenly Father to Joseph Smith and other Prophets)
