I have posted before that as my small campus masjid, there was a falling out between Sunni and Shia. Now only Sunni attend that masjid, and on Ramadan as well its only Sunni who show up. I don't consider myself Sunni or Shia though everyone at the masjid assumes I am Sunni I suppose.

The topic of Shia comes up a lot at Ramadan. The girls say, how in their home country Shia are not considered Muslim. They say Shia take Ali as prophet and other things. But when I talked to Shia they said this is not true.

How do I stand up for Shia to my Sunni friends when these conversations come? I am not educated enough about Islam and especially about Shia beliefs I feel to do this? But when they bring up the topic this Ramadan I want to be able to say, "no this is not how Shia actually believe." I think somebody should stand up instead of letting the false information spread!

What should I say/do??

Clearly people who do not want to even acknowledge another Shia to what they believe, do not wish to hear you telling them that they are wrong.

These people are the worst kinds of people, those who are blind to everything. I, personally, dont see any benefit from such people.

If I were you, I would not bother with them.

That is just my opinion, perhaps someone can give a better one.

the reason why i say is because perhaps they truly don't know?? I mean if somebody has been told their entire life that "shia are not real Muslims because they think Ali is a prophet" maybe they have never heard that it is not true.

Then by all means correct what they believe

but those of them that still refuse to listen, hope is lost for them

ya that I definetely agree laugh.gif I don't waste my time talking to people who don't want to hear anything other than what they all ready believe !!!

what exactly do u think I should say exactly though? Because this is my problem, I myself am not Shia and don't want to say anything incorrect. What are possibly some basic misconceptions that people have against Shia that I can correct? The main thing I know is that people think that Shia take Ali as prophet. This is clearly wrong! But what else are the main misunderstandings? Because I would like to address those. Because otherwise they are just spreading bad information!

Is there any book or article which might touch on these basic issues people misunderstand against Shia? I really want to make a point to voice out about this at the masjid this Ramadan!
