Why Are Most Terrorists Today Sunni Muslims Options

It seems like we can't even go about our daily lives for a year before hearing about yet another sunni suicide bomber or terrorist.

Why is it that most terrorists you hear about today are Sunni Muslims who have no problem with blowing up innocent civilians?

seriously, everywhere you turn there's a crazy sunni bent on killing civilans. So, let's be honest with ourselves here and ask the questions, why are sunni muslims more inclined to commit terrorist acts as opposed to other religious or ethnic groups?

what is it that motivates these people to behave this way?
is sunni islam really a violent version of Islam based on their interpretation of the Qur'an and what's written in Sahih Bukhari and Muslim?

now with the latest NY bombing attempt, this pakistani sunni guy really made it a whole lot worse for the rest of us.

this whole blowing up civilians business is getting old and really needs to stop.

Famdigy, your right. It does need to stop ...bigtime but as far as I know it is not actually sunnis rather they are wahabi type people who call themselves sunni or ahl al sunnah wal jamah. This is where people start getting confused. At college we had qatar qatar wahabis actually worse. and they like we are ahl al sunnah wal jamah and I was like yeh rite. Their beliefs were mindblowingly radical. Like they would nauzubillah say prophet saww made mistakes nauzubillah and try to prove it from the holy Quran. And would be like bidah and shirk all the time and wud never even mention imam Ali as name once. And would say that there is no such thing as jihad of the nafs. An would say that this 'jihad' is right and encouraged terrorism. I swear all this happened right in front of my face literally. The government are banning these people coz every1 is gettin sick of them. A couple of days ago there were the same people givin leaflets that voting is haram coz elections are takin place in the uk. The were police everywhere and got them off the streets! So funny! This is what I have come across. Dunno if youll agree with the above. actual Sunnis are much better and more respectful towards prophet saww and ahlulbayt as.and dont have radical beliefs.

I would also like to add on something else. If you look at it statistically, the percentage of sunnis is greater than shias (as I've so far know for sunnis it is beyond 70-80%) in Islam. Since the muslim population is nothing minute, you will have people that will go off track and do something stupid, and it is much more likely for someone from the sunni sect than the shia sect to do something.

Also, these terrorists groups, which are sunnis, have established themselves very well. As their extreme views go, they will obviously only recruit sunnis. Given how outspoken they are and the successes they've achieved in their plans, their names are spread out more, leaving to a greater ability to recruit.

to be fair, its not sunnis, its salafis. salafis class themselves as sunnis, but lets be honest, blowing urself up in civilian areas isnt even part of islam, let alone sunni'ism.

sunnis need to do more to distance themselves from this behaviour tho, and speak out against those that blow themselves up in their name.

Look at it this way. There are nearly 1.6 billion muslims in the world, with 80-90% of them being sunni. That makes about 1.4 billion sunnis in the world. Every group has its fair share of crazies, but you hear a lot of them being sunnis just because statistically a majority of the muslim world are sunnis. I don't think its fair to link terrorism with any one specific school of thought.

It is because they do not have a mind of their own. It could be anyone not only Sunnis take newly converts for example, they are ready to blow themselves up. Depends how fanatic they are and easily lead. Its all brainwashing you see.

It is really sad to hear such comments about this, but I have to admit that there are not only sunnis that do this type of behavior. And is not mentioned much. Many do not really know Islam as they should and this includes every sect of Islam. There is a well-known shia group in pakistan that are terrorists, the TJP. There are so-called sufi terriorists, christian terriorists, etc.

The key here is that most muslims do not know their religion and act upon such tactics to "gain paradise"., this is idiocy. And all done in the name of Islam. Many of these terriorists may be Sunnis, but you have a lot of other sects out there doing the same or worse.

I do not condone any of the violence from any of the sects of muslims, and it does not help to point fingers at a particular sect because we all have things wrong in our thinking and behavior. We all need a lot more teaching on Islam/Islamic behavior.

Is there proof the many sunnis who follow(s)(ed) Ibn Taymiyyah are terriorists?

As I mentioned in one other forum, if we look into ourselves and our own backyards, we will find many skeletons and things in there that need fixing. Why not just pray for the world of Islam and understand that we do not know the qadr of the people, only Allah does.

Woah are you for real? Do you think such terrorists even deserve the title such as a ''sunni'' or even a muslim in fact? And you mentioned is sunni islam really a violent version of islam. Well I myself cant answer that but there may be other sects who ask the same question regarding shia's etc judging on what is going on in Iran or is it Iraq?

I thought salafi was a sect derived from sunni'sim? You mention sunni's as if every single sunni out there blows themself up? I can assure you that is not the case.
