Mosque Near Ground Zero, what do you guys think about it? Rating Options

Hello everyone,

My name is Chris Fung and I am a senior at Bowdoin College conducting an anthropological research project on Muslim American youth. Specifically, I am trying to learn about the effects of stereotyping and other social antagonism on personal choices and identity among young Muslim Americans between the ages 18-28, who have spent their adolescence and young adult lives in a wake of rapidly changing American foreign policy and social discourse surrounding Islam after 9/11.

For the project I have interviewed several college-aged participants, and I am hoping to find a few more volunteers among the MuslimOnline community who would like to contribute to my research. From looking at this thread, there seem to be many people who think about the ways that their own relationship with Allah, the ways that they have been perceived and treated as a Muslim, and identity intersect. I think its a pretty good idea. No offence to anyone, but we Muslims have been portrayed as ruthless barbarians for a long time and Islam the true religion of peace and humanity has been termed by the entire non Islamic world as a violent religion. With an Islamic center so near to ground zero the authorities in the center and the Muslim brothers and sisters using it can always try to change the mentality of the people around by educating them about Islam. They can show how a true Muslim should follow the religion. With actions we can show that Islam is not just any religion, it's a true way of life. But this cannot be done by posting comments, the Muslims of that area will have to show it in their actions and prove it to the general public that we mean no harm. The true message of the Prophet Sallallahoalaihiwasallam will have to be shown in actions.

But in the current time that we are in so much has happened unfairly towards muslims already and some muslims are full of anger and show anger and some patient muslims show peace depends on the individual and how pious they are as our nabi always showed peace no doupt and thats what we should follow
there are benefits in building a mosqe near there and there also disadvantages
we have nothing to hide but there are some people in america who are so dead set on how oppresive islam is that they are not even willing to give it a chance and on the otherhand there are some people who research islam and gain the truth and peace i think it would depend on what sort of community there is in that area?

i think that its a wonderful idea that they're building a muslim center near Ground zero
its showing them that not all muslims are guilty of 9/11
alot of them are protesting but they shud stop because its gonna be built no matter what
even some muslims are discouraging this idea..............

1) Only fools think it's a good idea to rub salt in a wound. 2) Muslims SHOULD protest this, because they are going to be blamed for being un-caring and brash enough to build it, even though they are modest and sensitive enough to know better - just like they were blamed for 9/11 even though it was the AMERICAN GOVT that perpetrated that pathetically veiled, shamefully horrific crime - with the sought after and paid for help of just enough outsiders to be able to blame it on "radical muslims". As far as I'm concerned, the building of that mosque is nothing more than the NWO via the U.S. gov't continuing to pick fights and stir up resentment between our ppl groups to be able to justify committing more heinous acts of violence against them via our military. It's intended to make us end up hating and fighting one another so they can implement their "big brother", "we need the gov't to regulate everyone's behavior to the nth degree because we never know WHO is a terrorist" agenda. Just Watch.

Building a mosque near ground zero is an awesome idea as far as dawah goes. However, I think instead of building just an islamic center, why not build a "religious" center which will house a mosque, church, temple, etc. Thus showing unification of all religions. Just building an islamic center near ground zero is in a way dangerous because it is an easy target spot for extremist or those who just plainly "hate islam and muslims". Having another tragedy in that particular area will affect that community greatly. Should we, as muslims, think about ourselves or those around us?

Idea is right to build up a mosque.But we have to know
what is a mosque or Khanka.It is a place where all kind
of muslims comes to pray to god and where every kind
