You know, the system that has elected every president in our history. JFK lost the popular vote too, but that doesn't mean he lost does it? The electoral college is to insure that all states get fair representation. Do you think anyone would care about Nevada, Wyoming and many states with a very low population, if it wasn't for the electoral vote?

Another question that begs to be asked: If he lost the first election, how could he have possibly won the second unless the citizens agreed with what he was doing?

My next door neighbor is Cuban. He owned his own store for many years. One day Castro's Military came in, told him to leave and took everything he owned.

Now, newspapers in those countries are writing about the decadent war-mongering Americans. I'd like to see one of those countries that is gloating over the erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplanes. Come on... let's hear it!

Does any other country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the Lockheed Tri-Star or the Douglas 107? If so, why don't they fly them? Why do all international lines except Russia fly American planes? Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or women on the moon? You talk about Japanese technocracy and you get radios. You talk about German technocracy and you get automobiles. You talk about American technocracy and you find men on the moon, not once, but several times ... and safely home again. You talk about scandals and the Americans put theirs right in the store window for everyone to look at. Even the draft dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They are here on our streets, most of them ... unless they are breaking Canadian laws..are getting American dollars from Ma and Pa at home to spend here. When the Americans get out of this bind ... as they will... who could blame them if they said 'the hell with the rest of the world'. Let someone else buy the Israel bonds, Let someone else build or repair foreign dams or design foreign buildings that won't shake apart in earthquakes.

When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an old caboose. Both are still broke. I can name to you 5,000 times when the Americans raced to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when someone else raced to the Americans in trouble?

I don't think there was outside help even during the San Francisco earthquake. Our neighbors have faced it alone and I am one Canadian who is damned tired of hearing them kicked around. They will come out of this thing with their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb their nose at the lands that are gloating over their present troubles. I hope Canada is not one of these. But there are many smug, self-righteous Canadians.

And finally, the American Red Cross was told at its 48th Annual meeting in New Orleans this morning that it was broke. This year's disasters .. with the year less than half-over… has taken it all and nobody...but nobody... has helped.

Describing us awesome is an understatement.

hi all. fellow American here, born and raised. I sure to enjoy the states, there is perhaps no places I would like to be more at any given time than taking in some fresh air in San Francisco or driving around New Jersey...

Sure America has its problems. There is racism and intollerance among the people... the gov't, although it does help with aid to other countries is at the same time starting wars and supporting the slaughter of innocent people... but the gov't is not the people... and I wish people would separate that. When war in Iraq started I was 13, even in the republican infested area I lived in I remember driving through my city and seeing protesters on every corner. It was like something I had heard of from the Vietnam days. NO body I knew supported the war.


But I'll tell you... I am sick to death of people hating on me over being American. especially coming from my own brothers and sisters in Islam. You don't know how many times I have thought a different way and been belittled for it by the people supposed to be closest to me and then yelled at: "it's only because you're an American that you think this way!" or "you won't understand you're an American", so on so on... it makes me sad. It makes me feel unwanted. Should I be hated just for the fact that I was born here? Are you better than me because you were born in the east? because you were born a Muslim and I converted? These are the things I wonder and get so frustrated about. Because this ignorance on the opposite coming towards Americans it's so hypocritical... because the reason people hate Americans is because of the percieved ignorance and intollerance here...but isn't it just as intolerant to hate an American?

I'll tell you a few years back I began to hate on myself because i was American... I thought maybe something is wrong with me... look at all the problems here. I was convinced by the way people belittled me and told me about their own home countries that this was the worst place in the world with the worst people and I was among them. But I'll tell you one thing I do know. About intolerance... I get a few wiked stares and hatred from Americans when they see me with my fiance who is from India. But I can't tell you the number of terrible stares and comments and hatred that come from Indians towards me... and I can't even imagine what is to come. A lot of Arabs come here and complain how Americans treat them like terrorists and are rude and they think this puts America below them... yet they don't think back to Saudi, to Bahrain, to Oman, to other Arab nations where Indians and Pakistanis and Fillipinos come desperate to find work and get rocks thrown at them, they get taken advantage of, mistreated, etc, many to the point of taking their own lives in misery. Americans are so independent that they don't care at all about their families, we are at a horrible extreme. Perhaps that is true. But I know a lot of families from the east where people are so dependent on the family, that people are often miserable... staying with terrible abusive spouse who treats them like crap and the in laws treat them like dirt... where if a young girl is molested by an uncle they are threatened not to tell because it will ruin the honor of the family... Women are loose and dress really open in America, this is also true. Women don't have as much decency. But is this culturally any worse than things that happen in Saudi? Where school girls burnt to their deaths because the religious police would not let them out of their school which was burning because they didn't have abaya? Where rape victims are some times given lashes and jail time? In Israel countless women are trafficked in through eastern bloc countries,, and on the rare occasion they escape they are told they are whores and not even given their day in court?

I'm not saying America is any better or worse. And for the record my Indian friends, my Omani friends, my Saudi friends... they are my BEST friends. I'm just saying, if there's one thing I've learned its that every culture has it's good and bad. America could stand to learn a lot from the east, but likewise the east could stand to learn a lot from the west. We could all learn a lot from EACH OTHER! People (Americans, Indians, Pakistanis, Brits, EVERYONE) grows up underneath this ambiguous thing called culture... and weather they know it or not they become indocrtinated and begin to think that their own culture rules are something like morality. This is what caused intollerance and hatred. NO body is perfect. No culture is perfect. Being born in a certain country does not a person less or bad or unwanted. People need to realize this!
