I have been studying salvation in Christianity for a while now, and I am looking to become a "Christian," in that I am beginning to think that the Death and Resurrection of the Christ might have more appeal than I previously thought.

Coming to my query, can I be a Christian by just believing in the Christ as God's Gift, salvation and life eternal, or do I also have to hold the Bible to be the inerrant Word of God?

<<sorry I hope you dont me asking.

Not at all.

<<what did you believe in previously?

I haven't really got myself a new set of beliefs, so the way I will answer is by saying that I think there's an 'e' missing in "Holy Books" (one "hell" of a conspiracy, eh?). Let's say that I think all religions look ridiculous.

<<omg I have a super strong Christan friend who I'm sure could help u with watever u want...l

Super strong? Sounds like glue. Kidding.

If you could get an answer from him to my query and relay it over here. <smiles>

<<I personally think being shia is the coolest

You are a devoted Chiite Moslem. I am glad for you.

<<but hey it's ur path.. u pick it

Yeah, that's my intention.

Monarogue... just curious

It seemed from my other debate with you that you tend to find religion in itself a bit stupid... so what is prompting you to become a Christian? It's just, you seemed pretty adamant about the fact that Islam is in NO possible way a religion of peace... and it's just that, I can entirely accept an athiest making the statement that Islam is full of violence and oppression... but I don't understand how a Christian or a member of any organized religion can make that statement really... then I think it becomes very hypocritical as most religions share this problem of having violence, intolerance, and oppression depending on the way you look at it...

so... now my curiousity is peaked... don't think I'm trying to convert you to Islam... I'm just now very curious about your state of mind regarding organized religion...

<<It seemed from my other debate with you that you tend to find religion in itself a bit stupid

Right, and "ridiculous" is the word you said can be applied.

<<but I don't understand how a Christian or a member of any organized religion can make that statement really

What gave you the idea that I am anything of the sort you just mentioned?

<<don't think I'm trying to convert you to Islam

<Laughs>

<<Monarogue... just curious

I hope you are not going to pretend that you misspelled Monarque as Monarogue. Hope the "crazed people" intolerance displayed in the other debate is not spilling over, else we might have to consider dropping the last 'a' from Nazia1987.

>>religions look rediculous?

Yes, they look ridiculous.

>>were you an atheist or did you just believe in a God without follwoing a religion?..

To some Sufi Moslems I might say that my answer is undecided. To you, a Chiite Moslem, I will say I don't believe in God. <smiles>

>>I just love my imams to death!

Are the Imams the Fourteen Infallibles?

And that's what appears to be different about the Christian concept of salvation. Most people are willing to die for their Gods and the loved ones, here we appear to have a God willing to die for the people.

Isn't that the point of this thread?? Or am I confused??

Actually, in all honesty it was a mistake. That's what I thought your display name was from memory. I didn't take the time to actually scroll up and see. My bad.

Matter of fact, it's nice that this mistake happened. I have a tendency to screw up names I am unfamiliar with, even after being corrected; if I happen do that here, forummers will now be better able to appreciate my intention. You have actually been of aid. <smiles>

Wasn't for you, Nazia1987.

Whatever gave you that idea? Nazia1987 clarified it was an honest mistake, and, on the contrary, I am glad that we are all appreciative of the fact that mistakes do happen. I am the foremost to admit I have a hard time spelling unfamiliar names.

>>that is what scares me....look at your wording there..

Oh, another mistake, was it? <Laughs> A comedy of errors. <smiles>

You didn't take that literally, did you? Nazis and intolerance is an old line, it wasn't meant to scare you.

>>you answered my question that is all.

I am glad to have done so. <smiles>

I found at a website:

The Holy Scriptures are the infallible revelation of His will.

But later it states:

In Christ's life of perfect obedience to God's will, His suffering, death, and resurrection, God provided the only means of atonement for human sin, so that those who by faith accept this atonement may have eternal life, and the whole creation may better understand the infinite and holy love of the Creator.

(Underlined by me)

So it does appear to me that the means of salvation be not the "Holy Scriptures," but belief in the death and resurrection of the Christ. I need to study this more to get to something definite.

lets bring this to the right point and not agrueing about christianity and islam and which is right and forcing people to convert.. flipping heck, be happy that Monarque wishes to find God...

now....

Monarque ill try and help as im a christian, just converted myself (tried islam, didnt work)

you wish to convert to christianitym thats cool firstly find a church believe me a church will help you alot, it did me i was able to go to anyone at the church and they were able to help me understand.

As muslims agree, only God will guide who he wishes:

"No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him ..." John 6:44
and
"Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in ..." Revelation 3:20

because you are thinking and looking, that means God is guiding you, yes you might not understand why, i know i didnt have a flipping clue when it was happening, but just carry on.

(Christianity Version - Muslims dont agree with this) God created us to have an intimate relationship with us, but we cannot obtain it through our own efforts. going back to the idea God guides who he wishes but we cant have this loving and intimate relationship because we as Humans have sinned leaving us empty inside.

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." - Romans 3:23

We sinned to God by turning away from him, yet God still shows us love because he sends his only Son Jesus Christ to die for us and our sin

Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." - John 14:6

"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. - Romans 5:8

To Become a Christian and have that loving relationship with God, we have to do a number of things

1) Admit to yourself you have sinned

simple no need to explain
"Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord." Acts 3:19

2) Believe Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16

3) Say a simple prayer (optional)

some people say a prayer to God and admits all this, i know i did and made me so happy after, this is what i said

Dear Lord,
I admit that I am a sinner. I have done many things that don’t please you. I have lived my life for myself. I am sorry . I ask you to forgive me. I believe that you died on the cross for me, to save me. You did what I could not do for myself. I come to you now and ask you to take control of my life, I give it to you. Help me to live every day in a way that pleases you. I love you, Lord, and I thank you that I will spend all eternity with you.

In your name i pray

Amen

I hope this helps biggrin.gif

Okay, I will try to make it easier for you to read my posts, Silly Billy. Thanks for pointing it out.

>>you wish to convert to christianitym thats cool firstly find a church believe me a church will help you alot

Thank you for your helpful reply, Haward.

I do not want to become a mainstream Christian nor join a Church, which is why I put Christian in quotes when I first used the word. As a scripture, I don't find the Bible any more holy than the Coran, and I am not looking to adopt any scripture, only the belief in death and resurrection of Christ.

>>2) Believe Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins

That's more or less the part which most Christians agree upon as being the single most indispensable tenet of faith, and possibly being Faith in itself. If I do end up adopting the wonderful idea of God dying for our sins, I will probably call myself not Christian but Saved.

And that is what I have been trying to ascertain, whether it is possible to believe in salvation through the blood of Christ without believing the Bible to be the inerrant and infallible word of God, and I have to say I have received some encouraging replies.

>>I hope this helps

What's more appropriate to reply with, Amen or God Willing?

Because a Chiite asked me if I believe in God. Of course, you would be the outstanding kids of your class.
