We have a unique problem that no other site has to deal with.

How do you get a set of rules that Sunnis, Shias, Non Muslims, Women, Men, Conservatives, Liberals, Arabs, Whites, Asians, and other groups can all agree on?

Man, if we figure out some crazy way for this to work, this site should get a Nobel Prize (jk)

Prominent Muslim Forums:
Islamicboard.com - General Forum largely Sunni based
ManiacMuslim.com - too much admin interference (look at the forum categories, way to biased towards guys)
SunniForum.Com - Sunni Based with too much emphasis on the Hanafi Fiqh
ShiaChat.com - Shia Based with too much emphasis on Shiasm.
MuslimGlobe.Com - Goal of site involves too much profit and horrible forum categories.
FaithFreedom Forums - Too much extreme liberalism
Gawaher.com - Too much strictness and unorganized.
MuslimHipHop.Com - Not All Muslims Like Hip Hop

We need to erase all of these problems to make the best forum for all people.

We don't need all this Sunni/Shi'a/Wahabi/Sufi secetarian stuff all over the forum. I think this is what is causing a big part of the problem. The more we create these sections and threads, the more it draws attention to the fact that Muslims are divided among themselves and it will just cause more clashing among members of different sects.
I think this forum is too divided. Even in profiles there's a choice of ''What sect do you follow''. Why do we need that? I hardly think debating about different sects will bring us closer together as Muslims- on the contrary, as I said, it will more likely cause more division.
What I think we need to do is get over the whole Secetarian Ish and make this forum a place where all Muslims can discuss ISLAM rather than Muslim sects. In other words, the basic Islamic issues that most of us are all in agreement in, a place where Muslims can come without thinking about all the different brain-racking, head-aching debates that are awaiting them.
That way, we can focus on the things we do have in common rather than our differences, and I think this is what will work out for everyone.

I don't really know if I'm making sense. But for example, take a look at www.gawaher.com, the Islamic Forum. It's a succesful forum, and I think one of the main reasons for this is because it does not welcome secetarian discussions.

My conclusion is that I think the discussion of different sects in Islam should be a No No on message boards.

I pray that Muslim Online grows to be a succesful Islamic forum, where Muslims can come and unite rather than divide. : )

I would add, a place where Muslims and Non-Muslims can become united rather then divided.

Hmm i totally agree with Amatullah and Hunter, best post so far. I didn't think on MO there would ever be a sunni/shia debate, and know its way to split up.

Silence has caused violence in Iraq.

Sometimes dialogue is the best way to come together.

American Example.

White people and black people live in the same community
No one likes to debate race
Deep down, white people feel that black people are walking all over them
Inequality occurs.

Ignoring the problem is never the answer.

Here was Malcolm X's opinion on how to solve it.

The races try to stay among their own kind as in reality they are more similar. In those assemblies the races denounce racism by their race and towards their race.

The other race does the same thing.

Then in public, you retain your identity, but have no bad feelings towards the other race.

same can be applied here. In reality, people care a lot about this issue. hiding it just makes the questions deepen and over time creates distress among the community.

For example, i already know a few people on this site that appreciate Shias more and understand the misconception. And ive heard the same the other way around.

Ignorance and Silence Divides

Speech unites.

Yes, thats what I was thinking. The more that I learn about other sects, the more I come to respect their believe. Like the Misconceptions of Shia.
