Hello Brightbroom!
I am a Christian who practices Matthew 5:43-44 every day.
"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbour and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven."
I pray for Al Shabaab, Al-Queda, Hamas, Islamic jihad, Hezbollah and the muslim brotherhood every day. I also pray for young people who are planning to strap bombs to their bodies and kill themselves and harm others. I feel that this is a tragic waste of Gods creation. I was so upset by the death of that young muslim man in France last week and for his victims. I prayed for him whilest he lived and for his family now he has died.
The countries whose leaders I pray forI pray for those who laugh at my faith or who are hostile to it and to me. There are many!
I write letters for Amnesty international about closing guantanamo bay. I wrote to Bush about this too. He did not reply. I feel it is an outrage to keep people in such conditions!
Jesus said:
'But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.' (Matthew 5:39-41)
I think this sums up the message of Christ. We are to be suffering servants like he was. It is not always easy to turn the other cheek but it is very powerful! Look at Martin Luther King who used Christs message of peace to end segregation in the United States:
Martin Luther King Wikipedia.
Look at Gandhi....
Tolstoy's relationship with Mohandas GandhiGhandi did not like Christians but he used Christs teachings to win India its independance and he won.
My whole church follows the word of Christ which is central to our faith.
We are commited to put it into practice every day.
I would be a fool not to teach my children such powerful words!
Whatever this Author chooses to believe about Jesus, Paul or Muhammad is his choice.
Jesus Christ and his words are first in my book every time because as a Christian I strive for a world of peace and love,
May God bless you
Nicky
