Hey every1 and Salam (Peace)

so would you marry someone from the same culture as you or from a different culture.

If from a different culture, list the most likely cultures and why:

I get along with certain cultures better, so I guess it does matter a little to me. I'd probably prefer a Desi, Persian, or Arab. Looks aren't as important to me as intellect and modesty. Really, the food is easier for me to eat if it's not stereotypical American food.

hmm interesting guys

I would definitely marry someone out of my culture, I'm like a girl on a mission to unite Muslims- marry someone from out of the culture to try and reduce the divisions going on. My big brother is engaged to someone who isn't Kashmiri at all.
Kelly you're right, our beloved Rasool taught us to marry anyone who has piety- knowledge of their deen and many other things and who is sharp/intelligent- but it all needs to relate to piety of a believing woman, that's a Muslim man's blessings. However, we know that today, cultures are so difficult sometimes- parents want their children to marry within their own culture (it's not like that with me, alhamdulillah my parents will let me marry any Muslim, scratch culture!).

I mean, would you rather marry a drugie as long as he's from your own culture or someone who is amazing and pious but from outside the culture?

Food can always be learnt, if i marry into another culture i'll introduce my type of food to them and at the same time be more than happy to learn their type of food.

However, this doesn't mean that I totally shut out my culture, if someone pious and intelligent is found in my culture, I will marry him, cuz at the end of the day, it's about finding a decent personality, because if i say 'i will only marry someone out of my culture', then i'm exactly the same as those people who say 'marry only within your culture'

very interesting topic!

since i moved here ive seen so many bi-racial people...i think stuff like that's just amazing! MashaAllah!

plus i'd also marry someone from another race/culture mostly because i think it's so much more interesting when you mix things up...what's so interesting about the culture you grew up with and more or less already know everything about? I think parents want you to marry someone with the same background as them since they then dont have to make such an effort to understand your chosen one...but people like us who either were born in the western countries or raised or both dont see ethinicity as the defining thing when deciding whether to marry someone or not...it might be the last thing on our minds..well at least it's like that for me...especially since i dont find my cultural heritage as the greatest on this earth, there are more important and interesting things to worry about than someones origin....like whether im getting the visa or master card tongue.gif tongue.gif biggrin.gif

LOL, weird how you guys make everything into a joke wink.gif LOL, thought I was bad.

As for the topic itself, good topic, Alhamdulillah.

I personally would get married according to why you should in Islam; so I guess Sister Bin't Zayd covered this well, Alhamdulillah.

Fee ri'aayatillah.
