I would just like to ask some questions to those who have converted out of Christianity. I am just wondering as to what flaws they found in the doctrine or what was more "appealing" in Islam. Any answers would be appreciated as I am attempting to broaden my knowledge in regards to the spiritual lives and struggles of others smile.gif

Personally, my reasons for leaving Christianity (I should probably say the type of "Christianity" practiced in my part of the world) center around the malleability of teaching/doctrine depending on the situation.

For more on that you can reference the "Why I left Christianity" thread a few posts down in this group.

My main entrance to Islam was through the Quran. I came across it during my searches and through reading it, became convinced of it's divine nature.

I left Christianity because I felt that I was not getting the truth about God, Jesus, and the Bible. I also left because I was not at peace with Christianity. There were so many questions and no answers. Islam gave me the peace and the answers I sought and I have never once questioned my faith in Allah and Islam.

So...why did you leave Christianity Emilygreen!

weeks before i left christianity i doubted God's existence. felt i was praying to something that only existed if i poured my heart and soul into it. i didn't keep up my faith in God is it was hard, time consuming and required all my heart and soul which i wasn't prepared to give up.

and after you get forgiven by God through Jesus whats ur relationship with God then? Best mates? spouse? i knew God was almighty/loving etc but i never really understood how to treat God. do u fear him alot (like i did) or treat him more like human dad?
another one; after i left Christianity i still feared going to hell. sounds silly. i think christianity uses that as a draw card u know? although i know the doctrine would suggest otherwise
how can people say their religion is right over all the other's that say (and with many a reason) that they also are right? through faith, but i think faith is relative

Hi Muslim readers

There have been many religions in the world since our existence on the earth. These include Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity and so on. My personal view is that the existence of various religions in the world is a just manifestation of the desire of human beings to know God and to come to the Creator. The existence of various religions shows the struggles of human beings to live the eternal life, thus being the important history of mankind, not the objects for destruction. In this regard, people should not be discriminated or persecuted just because they do not believe the same God or have a different belief or leave their belief. No matter religion people believe, however, most believers recognize there is a huge barrier between God and human beings, and desire to overcome it in order to see and meet the Creator of the universe and their own soul. Because of our sin and rebellion against the Creator the loving relationship between God and human beings was broken and a huge gap of valley was created in between. As mere creatures, we have done the greatest humiliation ever to the Creator “God, we do not need you anymore. We ask you to leave our lives now and never return!” This is the most serious sin ever possible to the Creator.

Just performing religious rituals or duties (even with repentance) is not enough and is not even close to undo the greatest humiliation done to God! Something dramatic and amazing event should happen to make a way that would connect again the huge valley of separation. God has bridged the gulf, which separates us from God by sending his son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross in our place in order to pay the penalty for our sins. “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.” (Matthew 26:28) And he invites us to the wonderful gift of eternal life, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son (as a sacrifice for our sins) that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). And he points us the way to go, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Jesus Christ is the way to restore the broken relationship with God.

You deserve much better than who you are now. You were born for much better than who you are now. You were created to be loved by God, not to fulfill religious duties, rituals and traditions. Let us not miss our full potential as true human being whose heart overflows with joy, thanks and freedom in a loving relationship with Jesus Christ

My main reason for leaving Christianity and embracing Islam was my thirst for knowlege. I was Interested in Islam from when i was in 6th grade. the more i learned, the more Christianity seemed false and misguided. so i became addicted to the teachings of the muslims and now, three years later, Im a muslim. I thank allah for guiding me to fufillment.

Looking back at it, its like driving down a road and the first car can only take you so far, at one point the car breaks down and you have to move on.

So that and the trinity. I always read the bible and never saw "jesus" as god incarnate, I just saw him a.s. as a teacher.

If I may be so bold to join un the discussion. I'm not planning on converting to Islam but, as a Christian, I desire to adopt some of the practises into my life. THis said however, If God ever graces me with children I think I would want them raised Islamically to give tem the best start at life.

I love my God and am happy in my faith now even if my religion is hard to define, but from what I have seen of Christianity and of Christian histories we have lost the level of devotion that we used to have. It used to be for Christians that their life was for God and they could be identified through their good works, these days you cant tell the difference between a Christian and anyone else. This concerns me because Jesus said to lead by example: who is leading the example now? The people in my church are wonderful and we've just welcomed another sister to te church last night but we are very closed knitted and the only non-catholics whom I've met there are family dragged along for celebrations. Where has the sense of community gone? The sense of family, of belonging with Christs family.

That is one of the reasons I admire Islam so much. The sense of Community is strong and the devotion deeper.

Assalamu alaikum (Peace be upon you)
God Bless and happy Easter
Xx

I generally agree with you Crystal but, out of respect, I think I must speak.
I'm not even a Chrisitan. I've never been one. But I know there are Christians who lead by example. If you don't know about them, that's hardly their fault. So I wanted to acknowledge that.
And in the Gospels, Jesus said more specific things than just to lead by example. Maybe that's old history to you but within living memory thousands of Christians were martyred in concentration camps for standing strong in their faith. I'm not talking about people who happened to be Christians. There were many more of those. I'm talking about people who were martyred on account of their faith. I'm talking about people who were given the choice to renounce their beliefs or suffer. Many died wearing a mark that identified them as true Christians. Things like that, you've got to acknowledge in my opinion.
If the Roman Catholic church focuses on things which happened more than 1000 years ago, shame on them.

I left Christianity because I had some serious theological issues with it. I found it unclear and it left me unsatisfied and with more questions than answers.

With Islam all the issues I had with Christianity fell into place and left me feeling very fulfilled. With Islam, I feel complete. Before Islam I wasn't even aware that something was missing in my life, but after learning about it and converting, it's like everything is so clear and I know why I'm here, what I have to do and what is expected of me.

[/size]I left Christianity because of the following reasons;

God should never ever take any forms since my knowledge about God’s ability is narrowed

Truth is always messy like Trinity. I need areligion which is like a fast food from McDonalds

It fulfils my soul’s needs than the need ofthe flesh and blood which is very important to live on this earth

It is clearly addressing my sins which I cannottolerate

It is asking me tolove the enemy which is foolishness

It promotesforgiveness than punishments

It is asking me togive all my wealth to needy than little percentage which I cannot accept

It is asking me toavoid adultery which is totally absurd

It is not asking me to protect myself under thestatus of “Self-defence” which is unethical

It is not allowing me to punish the people inthe name of custom/laws

It gives fullrespect to women in such a way that it will not allow the men to marry more than one woman which is unfair formen

There are straightforwardanswers than mystery

It was full of Truth & Godly acts
