Nazia, either you need to be a scientologist or a Muslim. That is no middle ground. Allah is god and he does what he will...He says: Be! And it shall become! You can only trully benefit when you submit completely! If when you become muslim you have a clean slate, why would you bring baggage along with you?

Mureeda, scientology is a sort of movement that arose in the 50s and later became classified as a religion... I don't want to go into details but it certainly doesn't have much to do with believing in science.

I guess I don't understand what you mean by baggage. I became a Muslim in the beginning of my scientific career. the more I study, the more I research, the more doubts I have... but I maintain my faith. I guess it's hard for me to explain... I can't dismiss what I have learned in my studies, I can't dismiss what I have seen in my labs and so I don't, but I still maintain my faith in Islam.

Well all I can say to you at this point is may Allah have mercy on you and your soul. You learn something new everyday. I never thought it possible to find Islam and come to the light. Then learn something new about science and began to doubt. Tia astonishing.... May Allah be with you!!!

May Allah have mercy on my soul because I don't deny scientific facts while still maintaining my faith in Islam? blink.gif

I have plenty of Muslim professors here... I'm just going to talk to them about this... I'm sick of being judged on the issue... at least they will understand where I'm coming from

No not because you don't deny scientific fact. Because you are allowing science to blur your vision when it comes to Islam...

And of course they will understand you, they are scientist as well. But not all scientist have the same view...

What new scientific knowledge has put it into doubt? From what I know, Islam is the only religion that does not argue with science, and vice versa. I am very interested to hear what you have to say

I think it come off the wrong way when I said doubt... I agree with you Killed Bill in that Islam doesn't contradict science which is why I am a Muslim and still believe in science as well. And the co exist well for me. I think the doubt I meant was not Islam but things about Muslim culture... I keep running into many many problems adjusting and fitting in to the Muslim culture and Muslim community on a large scale while maintaining my studies and all... it's a long story and boring... sad.gif I am doing my best to continue learning because that is my passion and also because I believe it's what we are commanded to do in Islam and also to continue learning Islam and balancing these things. So when I learn about something in Islam when, taken at face value seems to contradict what I know baout science, I have to think of it in a different way because like you said sI think science and Islam go hand in hand. It's hard for me to deny evolution exists for example, it's really really difficult as all the evidence points that way and I can even see evolution play out on a microscopic scale in the lab, so I have to think, then God created these systems and created us humans to be here to discover such systems.

I am trying to be a good Muslim. I try and learn more Islam and I treat people good and help others and I am 100% different person than I was before converting. I am always looking to improve myself and help the world around me. Whatever my intentions, I like to think they come from the right place and never from greed or selfishness or anything of the like. I am also trying to be a good student and researcher and living my dreams but I suppose it's not panning out like I planned.

I completely understand your situation. We think its only logical that we do not follow the culture and the people but only its religion. But it is a lot harder to do that than it sounds. People dont understand how much influence others have, even when we understand they are wrong. They still put our minds into doubt, simply because they have none. Whether because they are just ignorant or dont listen, their solid faith puts ours into doubt, because we do think.

Does science itself not accept that everything is possible? If something does not always interact with scientific evidence (the spilling of the sea, bringing the dead back to life etc) it does not mean it did not happen nor that it cannot happen.

To understand everything a person needs to be completely unbiased, and it appears that you are. And that is the only explanation I can give to how far you have made it in your journey. I find it hard to understand whether its my bias or simply my logic that has returned me to Islam, because it makes perfect sense in every aspect of it. Something this perfectly designed cannot be a creation of man, but only something that with a greater ability can do.

i choose not to believe that because God explains where man came from, scientist thought they had to conjure up an explanation for some reason

I just would like you to answer this one question then I'm done here cause it's getting scary, do you believe everything in Holy Qur'an to be true or just some of it? I'm not trying to be funny or sarcastic.

Scientists are curious people. That's why they study science, that's why they do research and why some spend 15+ years in school because it's a curiosity that can not be killed. You really, truly believe that investigation into such things as evolution is just because "scientists thought they had to conjure up an explanation for some reason". ??? The whole world does not believe as you, you need to realize that..

This is getting scary why? Because you have found that not every single Muslim on the planet has the exact same way of thinking and set of ideas?

If you really are sitting here asking me if I believe in the Qur'an or just "some of it", then I don't even feel the need to validate with a response. You have read through every one of my posts with closed eyes and ears. I have explained myself and I don't feel the need to explain it any more.
