Alhamdu l'Ellah (All praise be to Allah) welcome sister smile.gif I became a new muslim about a year ago now Alhamdu l'Ellah (All praise be to Allah). I would suggest that you not only memorize the Holy Qur'an but more importantly read thru it and study it for it is a divine guide for us and our lives. I would also recommend that you ASK QUESTIONS regarding anything that you do not fully understand or might not even agree with and go to educated people for answers such as your local imam, an Islamic scholar, ect. please don't ever be afraid to question things, that's how people learn. Most importantly just follow your heart, it usually steers you right.Take care sister.
Assalamu alaikum (Peace be upon you),hiddenlapis

omg, sorry brother, I totally missed the little blue man at the top of the screen blush02.gif Anyway I hope the advice helps some blush.gif Assalamu alaikum (Peace be upon you)
Moostee
alaikum sl.gif brother

welcome to the brotherhood of islam.

my biggest advice to you is to steer clear of what is forbidden. if you avoid what is forbidden - then doing the obligatory and recommended acts such as prayer and fasting become a lot easier.

the most common sins that people continue to commit from their pre islam days after they become muslims are:

- backbiting.
- swearing
- listening to music
- some drink alcohol (to try and stop this habit slowly)
- watching things you shouldnt be.
- perhaps having a relationship with a member of the opposite sex pre marriage..

if you steer clear of these along with the other sins... you will find it easier to do the good because you will not be polluting your hear and soul...

with regard to what the sister above said about asking questions... i cannot agree or speak highly enough of this advice.

the beauty of islam is that nothing is off limits... ask and you shall know.
if you dont get an answer to your satisfaction - then you have probably asked the wrong person.

remember whenever you ask a question to keep an open mind... because it is through the open mind that you found islam smile.gif

peace be with you

I agree with brother Moostee and sister hiddenlapis.

A Muslim that's a good human, is in effect a good Muslim. Strive toward this goal; I recommend a thorough study of the Quran objectively and with an open-mind.

Last but not least, welcome to Islam and MuslimOnline forum. Good to have you on board.

Salaams.

Salaamu 'Alaykum!

Alhamdulillah that you've chosen Haqq (truth) over Baatil (falsehood), I hope that you progress in your Deen and Imaan, Insh'Allah Ta'ala!!

Remember that your faith is built upon your firm belief in Tawheed (the Oneness of Allah/God) and your belief in the Shahadah. Remember the obligation of Salah (praying five times a day sincerely), and remember to learn the proper method of praying. If you can't learn the Arabic words, say it in English or say "Subhanallah" instead- this is what the scholars recommend.

Remember all the obligations that you need to acquire true happiness in this world and the next, to acquire Jannah al-Firdaws, we must never forget our obligations of Salah, Jihad fi Sabeelillah (Fighting for the sake of Allah spiritually and militarily), Sadaqah (charity), and remember humbleness and sincerity before our creator, Allah, at ALL times.

biggrin.gif

May Allah Ta'ala reward you in your choosing of Islaam as your religion, and may He, Ta'ala, guide all humanity to Islaam through you. Ameen! smile.gif

Welcome, brother to Islam realm.
Even I've a broken heart, due to what happens to our brothers, sisters and kids at Palestine, some times I find my self obliged to help who needs help, and because a new Islam reverter make me happy in general.
Then my first advice is to go step by step:

Religion is easy, and no one overburdens himself in his religion but he will be unable to continue in that way. So do not be extremists, but try to be near perfection and receive the good tidings that you will be rewarded. Gain strength by worshipping in the mornings and afternoons and during the last hours of the night.”

Narrated by al-Bukhaari (39) and Muslim (2816).

This religion is very profound so approach it in a gentle manner and do not make yourself hate the worship of Allaah because the traveller who does not let his mount rest will not reach his destination and his mount will not be able to keep going.

The corollary is : You have to try your best, fulfilling your duties as well as you can within moderation manner.

The second advice

The most perfect of the believers in faith are the best of

them in morals. And the best among them are those who

are best to their wives.

Narrated in Mosnad Ahmad, #7354, and Al-Tirmizi, #1162.

My third one

None of you believes (completely) until he loves for his

brother what he loves for himself.

Narrated in Saheeh Al-Bukhari, #13, and Saheeh Muslim, #45.

So don't forget to make Du'aa to our brothers at Ghaza, Also for me and all Muslims and non Muslims to be guided to the strait path.

Peace to you and your kin.

Hmmm...you should say instead that you have reverted back to the pure monotheistic Islam. Why do I say this? Because Islam is a state of submission to Allah and everyone and everything borne of this universe is in one way or another in submission to Allah and His will.

I congratulate you for having the strength to return to pure monotheism and acknowledging Allah's call.

IMO, more important than memorizing scripture is internalizing the messaage and lessons learned in scripture and applying them the best as you can in your daily existence.

You probably know the basic tenets so here are other recommendations I can think of:

a) Strive for self-improvement in all aspects of life whether in your career, studies, family life, etc.
cool.gif Remember that Muslims always start with good and Godly intentions. Endeavor to remove hatred, malice and envy from your mind and heart and replace it with compassion for certainly Allah our Maker is Most Compassionate.
c) Ignorance is a weapon of the Adversary so always feed the mind - studying and research are crucial to Muslim life and in fact Islam strongly urges its adherents towards learning. The Prophet (pbuh) himself said "Seek knowledge even in China" and "A man studying for an hour is preferable to a man who worships for an entire night."
d) Learn to be an independent thinker. Allah has given you a mind so use it to its full extent. There are many charlatans and deceivers even in the Islamic community so be wary.
e) Do not be judgemental. Ultimately, only Allah should judge. Instead always do letter item a)...

Well these are some of the things that I can think of for now. I hope you shall remain strong in the faith. Feel free to ask if you need clarification.

Peace.

well welcome to Islam smile.gif

the brothers and sisters have some great advice out there for you..

I have another one tho.. find an Islamic group that live around you.. because at the begging of your Islamic journey you would need to be supported and advised..

So, you can either find like a mosque.. a youth group.. or like a Muslim association..
I think there are some websites that has like a guide for the mosques in your city..

oh yes make sure to always eat hala biggrin.gif

Wow you remind me of this convert that goes to the prayer rooms in college.
Well just to help you and make you feel more welcome i thought i might quote some you know transalation and get you into the judgement day frame of mind.
Oh and im JJ by the way and im blonde (well not literally but mentally, if you know what i mean) happy.gif
So here are some quotes i thought you mind find interesting cuz theres not much point in memorizin things n reading them over n over again if you don't know what they mean...
Surah 27 (i forgot to write down the verse number, oops) 'Verily those who believe not in the Hereafter, we make their deeds fair seeming to them, so that they wander about blindly.' cross-eyes.gif
Surah 3 v175 - 'It is only Shaitaan(satan) that suggests to you the fear of his AUliya. (supporters and freinds, disbelievers in the oneness of Allah and his messneger Muhammad) so fear them not, but fear me, if you are true believers.'
Oh and this one i can relate to;
'And let not the disbelievers think that our postponing of their punishment is good for them. We postpone the punishment so that they may increase in sinfulness. And for them is a disgraceful torment.'
Do i sound like im brainwashing you, well i hope not im just quoting my fav verses.
I hope you find them beneficial and once again WELCOME! yahoo.gif whistling.gif

GOOD deeds (opinion) propigate Islam and do not lie and try not to let people lie about islam. Keep strong friendship with Christians and teach them because they are strong converts
