Full Version: People Always Tell Me "you Can't Make What's Halal Haram..."

I always hear this is a big sin and I recently became a vegetarian for animal rights issues and so people say this to me. I guess my big thought is then, what about slavery? I know it was technically never declared halal OR haram, however there are references in Qur'an to keeping slaves so clearly there was no problem in it back then. But I'm sure you'd be hard pressed to find any sane person living today who could support the institution of slavery!! I think it's one of the most terrible and inhumane acts a person can impose on another (perhaps in my mind there is nothing worse)!! Wouldn't that be making something that's halal haram though?? Because even though Qur'an in my mind technically supports the institution, I consider it an abomination

where does it say that we can't have our own morals in addition to what is outlined for us in the Qur'an? I mean I feel wrong in killing animals, I have my whole life. I grew up veg because of that and only tried eating meat a couple of years. Now that I'm back eating veg I feel so much happier and at peace with myself. I'm not judging anyone who does it meat but its not for me. On top of that I am so much healthier since I switched to veg. Studies show vegetarians live longer than omnivores also so I think I'm taking better care of my body!

anyway I just want opinions on this...

pbuh.gif I feel that anyone has a right to eat what they think is/will be good for them. If one never removes the choice of halal and always feel that they can eat meal(halal) at any given time, then I see no problem with it. I myself stop eating meat for a few months at a time because my system is slow in digesting it. But I never rule out Halah meat at any given time as you have not(permanantly). So as long as YOU have not ruled out eating meat definately, that the choice to eat vegetarian is yours to make.

Allah only knows when the time will come when you have to eat meat as a life necessity. We may swear off a thing by choice or reasons, but Allah is the ultimate decider of all matters.

They ayat people maybe talking about is:

QUOTE
"Why do you make haram what Allah has made halal for you?" (66:1)

This is only concerning the Prophet's pbuh.gif marriage to his adopted son's ex-wife.

If it is benefitting your health, I see no problem with the choice, Sis!
